Kunmanara (Milatjari) Pumani was born in 1928 around Amuroona, between Indulkana and Mimili Community. She was an immensely important figure in the art centre and community, and passed on a huge amount of knowledge about the land, women's stories and Tjukurpa which is still painted today.
Kunmanara grew up nomadically in the area around Amuroona, Antara and Paralpi. As a young girl, she came across white station workers visiting Paralpi. The workers gave her rations in the form of sugar, flour and clothing. After this first contact, Kunmanara continued to live on country with her family until eventually moving into the slowly building settlement known as Everard Park Station.
